17+ skills to list on your student nurse CV

Before you begin writing, make sure you know how to write a CV in a way that best emphasises your strengths.

A student nurse is someone who is currently enrolled in a nursing program. Student nurses perform many of the same duties as a regular nurse, but they may not have the same level of experience or skills.

To become a student nurse, you need to:

Student nurses may work as a nurse’s aide to gain experience in the field, or they may volunteer at a hospital or clinic to gain experience. They typically work under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). Additionally, student nurses may be asked to take on additional responsibilities such as supervising other nurses or providing leadership in clinical settings.

As you’re writing your student nurse CV, include a mix of hard and soft skills on your CV to show you’re capable of handling all aspects of the job.

Hard skills are specific, teachable abilities that are needed for a certain job. For example, a nurse needs to know how to take blood pressure and give injections.

On the other hand, personality traits that help you interact with others and manage your work — interpersonal skills, for instance — are called soft skills.

For example, top soft skills student nurses should have are the ability to follow all  protocols and provide excellent patient care. They also need to be able to handle stress, because nursing can be a demanding profession.

Good communication skills are also important, as nurses must relay information to doctors and other members of the healthcare team. Finally, student nurses should have an interest in healthcare and be motivated to help others.

Other important hard and soft skills for a student nurse CV include:
